Baseball
Buy and sell baseball gear in Guatemala.
Guatemala’s main diamond, the Enrique “Trapo” Torrebiarte at the Hipódromo del Norte in Guatemala City’s Zone 2, is home to the national federation, but the game also runs through departmental associations from Izabal to Huehuetenango and a youth pipeline in the Liga Javier and the Liga Pequeña. The gloves, bats and catcher’s sets that move between those teams, new and pre-owned, change hands most often when a player moves up a division and last season’s bat or glove no longer suits the game they are stepping into.

Gloves, mitts and the position you play:
each glove is built for one job on the field. Infielders use small, shallow gloves so the ball comes out fast on a double play, outfielders use the longest ones with a deep pocket for catching on the run, and pitchers prefer a closed web that hides the grip. First base and catcher are different again: both wear a mitt without separate fingers, and the catcher’s carries far more padding to take pitch after pitch. Check the hand before anything else. A glove marked LHT is for a left-handed thrower and goes on the right hand.
Bats and the stamp on the taper:
wood, alloy and composite all do the job, but the mark printed near the handle decides where a metal bat can be used. Youth teams from the Liga Javier and the Liga Pequeña play Little League’s Latin American tournaments, and at those ages that means bats carrying the USA Baseball mark. Older players move to BBCOR bats, heavier for their length and built to respond more like wood, and many adult games use wood. Alloy bats are ready from the first swing and dent rather than break. Composite bats need a few sessions to break in, and when they fail, they crack. In wood, maple is harder at the barrel and ash flakes along the grain as it ages. Spikes matter too. Baseball cleats carry a toe stud for pushing off that football / soccer boots lack, and metal spikes are for older players, with youth leagues playing in moulded soles. The weights and bands players use to look after their arm in the off-season sit in exercise equipment.
Pockets, laces and barrels on used gear:
a broken-in glove is one of the few pieces of baseball kit that can be worth nearly as much used as new. An entry-level leather glove costs around Q400 to Q600 new, while pro-series gloves from Rawlings or Wilson start around Q2,500, and those pro gloves hold their price because the weeks of catching it takes to shape a pocket are exactly the work a new owner wants to skip. A cheap youth glove with a synthetic palm has almost no resale and tends to go to a younger brother instead. On a glove, check the laces first: dry, cracked rawhide will snap mid-game, though relacing is a routine repair. The pocket should hold its shape, the palm padding should not be flat, and the leather should flex without cracking. Pro-series gloves are the ones that get copied: a genuine one has deep, crisp stamping, thick and even leather and tidy lacing, and a pro model at an entry-level price is the warning. On a bat, run a hand along the barrel for dents and flat spots, read the stamp, and shake it next to your ear. A composite bat that rattles has a loose end cap or a crack inside and is finished, and so is a wood bat cracked near the handle. A batting helmet with a cracked shell is not worth wearing at any price.
A bat your kid has outgrown:
is the easiest baseball listing to sell, because the family one division down needs exactly that bat. Give the length and weight printed on it, photograph the certification mark clearly, and say whether it is alloy or composite and how many seasons it has had. For a glove, state the size marked on it, the throwing hand and the position it was used for, and photograph the pocket, the laces and the palm. Catcher’s sets, mask, chest protector and shin guards, sell best complete. A family in Puerto Barrios or Cobán will want the stamp and size in the first photos before arranging to collect, and a buyer in the capital will want to take a swing or close the glove before paying. A USA Baseball bat stops being any use to a player the season they move up to BBCOR, so list it as soon as the new one is bought, while the younger players are still looking for theirs.
