Video Games & Consoles

Buy and sell video games and consoles in Guatemala.

Most consoles sold new in Guatemala are the US version, and they plug straight into the wall with no converter, because the voltage and the plug are the same. New or pre-owned, a PlayStation, an Xbox or a Switch is only half of what you are choosing: the other half is where its games come from. Nintendo does not run its eShop for Guatemala, so on a Switch a cartridge in the hand is still the simplest way to own a game, which keeps used ones in steady demand.

The store behind a PlayStation, an Xbox, a Switch or a VR headset:

in Guatemala it weighs as much as the hardware. Sony runs a PlayStation Store for Guatemala, so a PlayStation works on a local account. On Xbox the split is in the machine: the standard Series X reads discs, while the Series S and the all-digital Series X have no drive and will never play a used disc. Nintendo is the odd one out: its eShop is not offered for Guatemala, so digital Switch games go through an account registered in another country, and cartridges carry much of the trade. In virtual reality, a Meta Quest runs on its own and a PS VR2 needs a PS5 to plug into. Meta does not ship the Quest to Guatemala, so a Quest here has come in from abroad.

Fortnite, Roblox and the online subscription:

what the household plays should pick the console. Fortnite plays online free on all three, and Roblox and Call of Duty: Warzone do the same on PlayStation and Xbox. Online play in most paid games needs PS Plus, Nintendo Switch Online or Game Pass, a recurring cost on top of the console. The Switch also leaves the house, which suits a home where the television is shared.

Switch cartridges against discs, and what a used game fetches:

a new physical Switch game sits around Q500 to Q800 on the shelf, with Switch 2 releases at the top of that, and a used cartridge of a game that has been out a while goes for around Q300 to Q450. A cartridge has no surface to scratch, so its price rests on the case and cover being there and on whether people still go looking for the game: Pokémon and Mario Kart stay near the top of the used band, a title nobody asks about drops below it. A PS5 or PS4 disc with deep circular scratches may refuse to install.

Storm surges, loose HDMI ports and games that belong to someone else:

any of the three can undo a used console. Storms and power cuts send surges down the line, and the power supply is usually what pays, so ask whether the console ran on a voltage regulator or a UPS. Start it from fully off and play until the fan spins up, watching for shutdowns. Wiggle the HDMI cable gently: a worn port shows up as flicker or no signal. A console sold loaded with games needs a direct question: those are often the seller’s digital purchases, gone once the seller’s account comes off. Ask too whether it has been modded, since a modified console can be shut out of online play. Push both sticks of every controller for drift, and hold a VR headset’s lenses up to the light: scratches, and spots burnt into the screen by sunlight getting in through the lenses, do not polish out.

A PS5, Switch or Xbox listed under its exact model name:

buyers search by it, so give it in full: PS5 with or without the disc drive, Switch, Switch OLED, Lite or Switch 2, plus storage, the controllers included and any repair. Before the handover, turn off console sharing on a PS5, deregister a Switch as your primary console or remove your profile from an Xbox, then factory reset it. Pack the original Nintendo dock and charger, since a cheap third-party dock is the accessory Switch buyers trust least. A console only proves itself on a screen: meet where there is a television, with a game ready to load, and a buyer coming in from Mixco or Coatepeque goes home with a machine they have already watched play.

FAQ:

  • Will a US PlayStation Store card work on a Guatemalan account?

No. PlayStation Store codes only redeem on an account set to the country they were sold for.

  • Does a cartridge from Europe or Japan play on a US Switch?

Yes. Switch games are not region-locked, so an imported cartridge loads on a console bought here. The languages on it can differ, and the back of the case lists them.
