Vacuum cleaners

Buy and sell vacuum cleaners in Guatemala.

A corded canister that has spent years on the rugs, a cordless stick whose battery decides what it is worth and a robot that finds its own way back to its base are three very different purchases, and all of them can be listed here new or pre-owned. Wet-and-dry tank vacuums for the garage and the car sit alongside them. One detail matters more in Guatemala than buyers expect: some robots arrive in their European version, and a self-emptying base built for European mains is not made for the socket in a Guatemalan house.

Corded canisters, cordless sticks and robots:

three ways of dealing with the same dust, and the choice has less to do with suction than with how you clean. A corded canister or upright from Electrolux or Black+Decker pulls steadily for as long as you like and has no battery to age, which suits a house with big rugs and a thorough weekly clean. A cordless stick from Dyson, Shark or Xiaomi hangs on the wall for a quick pass after lunch. A robot covers the tile daily but will not climb stairs. A wet-and-dry tank vacuum handles the garage, the car mats and the sawdust that would choke a household machine. Machines that spray and extract to wash a sofa sit under cleaning and household, and if the trouble is dust hanging in the air, air purifiers deal with that.

Brush rolls on a stick, bases on a robot:

on a cordless stick, the head matters more than the suction figure on the box. Long hair and dog hair wrap round a plain bristle roll within weeks, and the anti-tangle heads Shark and Dyson now fit spare you the scissors. Check that the battery clicks out, because one sealed into the body is harder to replace. On a robot, the base decides the price: a plain dock only charges, while a self-emptying base sucks the bin out into a bag you empty every few weeks, and the larger stations also wash and dry the mop pads. Those bases carry their own suction motor, which is where the socket comes in.

European robot bases on a Guatemalan socket:

some robots reach Guatemala in their European version, with a self-emptying base rated for roughly twice the voltage of a Guatemalan wall socket. It will not run properly at home without a step-up transformer sized for its motor. Turn the base over and read the plate before paying: a version made for the Americas lists the same voltage as your fridge and television. A robot with a plain charging dock starts around Q1,500 new. Add a base that empties the bin, or one that also washes the mop, and the price climbs to between Q6,000 and Q12,000, most of it the station. A used docked robot is therefore priced on its base first and its battery second, and a European base you cannot plug in at home is best counted as if it were not in the box.

What a tired battery and a hairy brush roll give away:

ask the seller to charge it fully and run it on maximum while you watch, since a worn battery quits on max long before it does on eco. Pull the brush roll out: hair packed into the end caps wears the bearings, and a roll that squeals or wobbles needs replacing. A burnt smell from the exhaust usually means a slipping belt on an upright or worn motor brushes on a canister. On a robot, spin the side brush and wheels by hand and make sure the laser turret on top turns freely. Have the owner remove it from their app account in front of you, or it may refuse to pair with yours. Copies of the best-known sticks look almost identical, so ask for the serial sticker under the bin and match it to the box.

The rating plate in the photos when you sell a robot or stick:

it tells a buyer at a glance whether the base is the European version, so photograph it on the base and charger beside the brand and exact model. Give the battery’s age and the spare filters and bags included, and unlink the robot from your app before you hand it over. For a buyer coming from Quetzaltenango or Escuintla, have it charged and the base plugged into your own wall: watching it empty the bin from a Guatemalan socket settles the voltage question before the robot leaves your house.
